Bullied because of head lice.

January 17th, 2008

Here is a very recent exchange of e-mails with another visitor who has been helped even before becoming a customer.

Dear John,

I have read about your products online and will definitely be ordering them on Friday (gotta love payday). My husband and I have been battling lice for over 2 years with our children.

Our twins were born at only 24 weeks and are more frail than most other children their age. I have to be extremely careful with what I use because of their lungs.

In Kindergarten, they managed to get lice and honestly, I don’t think I have ever really gotten rid of them.

We have replaced everything of theirs, we have used every product over the counter as well as doctor prescribed.

They were teased constantly to the point of being sick every time they went back to school. On the bus they were teased as well.

This year, it started again. It went through all of first grade and they were infested again. By the end of November, we pulled them out of school and have begun home-schooling our girls. They have been so much happier at home. To the point of asking,” You mean we won’t have to sit in each other’s laps anymore?” None of the kids would let them sit next to them.

I can’t wait to try your product but if you have anymore advice, please let me know. I have fought for two years to get rid of this and it seems to just get worse. My two year old has it now also. Can I use this on her as well?

Thank you again for listening and offering any advice you have time to give me. It is greatly appreciated.

Hi C*******

Thank you for your message and your story.

I wish it were true that your story was unusual but it isn’t, we have heard it many times but don’t let that dismay you. You will get this sorted out and you will also look back and see the steps you took that were just a little bit off the right path. Trouble is just a few steps off at the start of a journey means you end up a whole long way off at the end!

I hope you have read the 7 Huge Head Lice Myths because within those you will find a lot of resonances with your own situation and also the answers. Read especially

http://www.nitmix.com/headlice-myths-day3.htm

http://www.nitmix.com/headlice-myths-day5.htm

From what you have told me a few things stand out.

1 Your children didn’t cause their head lice (or anyone else’s), everyone catches head lice from someone else so we are all the receivers before we were ever the cause! Head lice are 100% natural result of healthy happy children socialising well in school. Nothing else….EVER.

Normal, normal, normal. But yucky too. So nobody ever needs to isolate, blame, accuse, isolate or punish a child because of head lice. Do they ever do that if a child catches a cold?

OK, that really gets me going doesn’t it!

Now, why has it been tough going for you?

Well, stop all that cleaning the house and clothes because of head lice. It is wasted effort because they aren’t in your house and clothes and every minute you spend doing that is a minute you didn’t spend on the real problem.

We sell all over the world and believe me nobody but nobody outside the USA does that cleaning and bagging toys.

And you know what?

They clear up their children’s head lice just the same. Amazing!

Continuous bouts of head lice a few weeks apart aren’t new cases. Nobody can be that unlucky! Really they can’t. It is a simple sign that you got the numbers of lice or eggs down to nearly zero and then it took 2-3 weeks for those few to become many and for you to wonder where the blazes they come from.

Simple arithmetic says

-7 days for an egg or two to hatch.

-7 more days to reach breeding maturity. (Still only a louse or two to be found)

-7 more days for the second crop of eggs to start hatching at the rate of 8-10 a day

Boom! Suddenly there seem to be lots and lots of head lice when there weren’t any a few days ago!

If you are stuck in a pattern of 2-3 weeks cycles of head lice this is your answer.

Nothing to do with mutant or resistant head lice or not doing your job as a Mom. I bet you were so close every time!

You just missed one or two tiny eggs or baby lice. These would have been the size of a grain of sand and well hidden so don’t be hard on yourself, after all if you were washing 10 loads of bedding and bagging up the toys no wonder you missed “one or two grains of sand”!

See how it happens?

We help families clear their child’s hair of everything that doesn’t belong there in a gently safe way so they can just repeat this process until they have caught every last little critter.

Doesn’t matter if they miss the odd louse because they will get it the next time as it grows bigger or pops out of it’s safe little egg case. Our method doesn’t rely on a medication zapping every louse and egg to succeed.

Once you have the children clear of head lice use the prevention spray to make their hair less ideal for any new visitors that they come into contact with once they start to socialise again.

I hope this helps you and your family.

Regards

John Owen

P.S.

I may publish this exchange in out Blog to help others understand their problems but I will remove any personal detail first, is that OK with you guys? ( Lovely person said yes so we can now share it with you!)

Head lice advice makes even non-customers happy!

January 15th, 2008

What is so wonderful about this message received in the office recently?

Email Address:*.*.****@comcast.net

I just wanted to thank you for your attitude toward lice that came accross in the FAQs.

I live in the US and there is certainly a real “freak-out” response to lice.

I found lice on my daughter’s head on Christmas Eve. My son asked, “What do they do?” and I had to honestly answer, “not much”, so what was I so upset about. He just shrugged his shoulders.

I have been going nuts with laundry, etc., all the while thinking, “if they are so hard to get off the head like people say, why would they be falling off onto bedsheets and coats?”

You have helped me gain a better perspective. I also so appreciate the info regarding not having to clean the entirehouse and every single item that may have come in contact with my daughter’s head.

Thanks again for your down-to-earth approach. I feel more relaxed now. Please pass this thanks on to whomever it would please.

Sincerely, D***** P*****

They aren’t even customers of NITMIX Ltd and we have made them happy!

Seriously, just the information from our web site has put this person on the right track to beat their head lice problem.

How cool is that?

Very cool, I say.

Do you advise skipping second chemical treatment and waiting for NITMIX?

January 3rd, 2008

Here’s a common question

Dear John,

I found lice in my 9 year old son’s hair last Saturday -
I’d been expecting this at some point because his
elementary school has been struggling with an infestation
for years. I gave him the first treatment with Rid
(Piperonyl butoxide & Pyrethrum extract) as recommended
by his principal, who says that she normally advises
against the chemicals but was changing her advice because
the infestation has become so prevalent.

My doctor also found lice in my hair. He prescribled
5% permethrin cream for me which had to be left on all
night! It was horrifying.

Thankfully I found your site and have ordered all your
products. Of course they’re not here yet. Do you advise
skipping the second course of treatment with these
insecticides (in my son’s case, they say to treat again
in 10 days and in my case the doctor said 7 days.)

I hate putting these chemicals all over our heads.
But I don’t want to treat halfway and then have the
reinfestation come back even stronger.

I am one of those mothers who is sent to the moon by
this! That’s why I kept searching for information even
after we started treatment.

I also did the scorched earth cleaning policy, washing
and rewashing linens, shirts, sweaters, pants every time
they touched our skin. Our house has so many giant
plastic bags in it, it looks like we are moving.

THANK YOU for your down to earth advice about that!

Thank you.

…..and our response.

Hi *********

Thanks for your message.

Sounds like you are trying very hard to be responsible
and get your child free of head lice while also being
true to your concerns about the treatment and possible
side effects.

Let’s be very clear on this. Most kids will shrug off
head lice treatments without ill effect.

Some kids may be made sick by them but this is rare and
also very difficult to link directly.

Trouble is, if your child turns out to be super sensitive
then it would be very serious for you and your child. This
kind of super sensitivity can occur with bee stings, ant
bites, shellfish etc,etc and we have all read the stories
and our hearts go out to those people.

Now, we could trade on those fears and say terrible things
about pesticide head lice treatments, and some web-sites do.
We don’t. You are trying your best as a mom and we shouldn’t
trade on your fears to convince you to buy a few bucks worth
of product.

You can do a second treatment if you feel it is the right
thing for your household or I will offer you some alternative
advice about what you can do that will help and will be
effective.

Not doing a second chemical treatment WONT make anything
come back worse, infestation isn’t provoked to be worse
by anything you are doing. The second treatment is to mop
up anything that wasn’t killed by your first treatment.
You can choose to remove anything left by a harmless method
and you will achieve the same result….NO HEAD LICE.

Oh I wish I could throttle the idiot that wrote the advice
about bagging stuff up and cleaning the house! There is no
research that I have ever seen that support this advice yet
it is repeated over and over as if it were proven beyond
doubt….it isn’t. If in doubt read this

http://www.jcu.edu.au/school/phtm/PHTM/hlice/speare-2002.pdf

Just follow the advice below if you want to spend the next
few days doing something effective and harmless to rid
yourselves of any last vestiges of the head lice infestation.

I may publish this reply in our blog as it is a very common
question and answer, we will of course remove any identification
first!

You can do a load of good work right now.

Forget about killing head lice, just think–REMOVE

If you have a fine comb and can locate some oil
like sweet almond, from a health food store, or
even sunflower from a food store you can do a lot
of good right now by removing any larger lice that
may be in the hair.

Don’t use Vaseline, kerosene or mineral oils
they are awful to wash out and dangerous as
they can catch fire!

Just check before you start that the oil you have
will dissolve in your regular family shampoo by
rubbing bit of the oil on your fingers and then
washing with the shampoo.

Work a small amount of the oil into the roots of
the hair while it is dry and then comb gently with
the finest comb you can find.

You will get out an amazing mixture of rubbish
including big head lice and even some eggs.

10-15 minutes combing is fine. Just so long as you
round up all the big fat adult lice.

These are laying between 6 and 8 eggs, per day,
and are creating tomorrow’s lice. These will come
our very easily if you have them stuck in slippery oil.

Shampoo out the excess oil and chill out for a
couple of days then repeat the process.

You are harmlessly removing the lice that can and
will lay down more eggs so you have already started
to eradicate this population.

When you get your order switch to the NITMIX Wet
Combing Aid and this will make the head lice even
easier to get out.

Don’t be fooled by how simple and gently this is; it works!

Is there an incubation period for head lice?

December 15th, 2007

Here is a very common question.

“My son is in the same class as a child who just
found out they have lice. If he is going to have
it how soon will we see it and when can I assume
that he does not have it? Thanks so much!

And the answer….

If he has had head to head contact AND a louse
has transferred then he already has head lice,
if a transfer hasn’t happened he won’t. There
isn’t an incubation period, you either have the
or you don’t.

Below is some standard advice
which you can follow to really check if your
child already has a little visitor.

Added benefit of natual head lice treatment

November 26th, 2007

A question from our post bag.

“My first purchase was about 4 years ago.  I’ll never forget how your company eased my mind during what felt like a “living heck” as i navigated through lice in our household.  I have  passed along your wisdom and products to neighbors as well.

I have a question.  I love the “nitmix oil” I think this is what is called the combing agent.  I like rub it into my scalp to help ease the dryness of my eczsama (sp?)  Is this safe to do this?  I have assumed that it was safe since the product is all natural.

Thank you,
Evie ”

The natural Sweet Almond base oil in NITMIX Wet Combing Aid will be fine on eczema. The slight softening effect may relieve some of the itchiness you experience and help lift dead skin cells away. There would be no medical benefit as such but the mild relief you are getting is not uncommon.

Head lice cure that rejuvenates hair too!

November 26th, 2007

I love days wen we get a message like this one.

“I just wanted to let you know that we like your product so far.  Your voice was the only one online that spoke to the dangers of putting pesticides on the human scalp.  You also were the only voice online of reason regarding the inanity of over-cleaning home surfaces on which lice could not actually live.

An interesting side benefit of your product:  I (mom) had to use it because I caught them too from my daughter.  Your oil had a very nourishing effect on my hair.  I left it in (after combing) overnight and shampoo’d the next morning.  I was pleasantly surprised to discover it gave a beautiful lustre to my ‘older’ locks.

Just letting you know.

Mary Jo”

Head lice treatment, a cry for help

November 15th, 2007

Here is message from a fairly typical client.

Please help me I found head lice in my daughters
hair on friday evening and had to treat her hair
with Lyclear.

I then ordered a couple of items from you on
saturday and received them this morning with
thanks. I then went to check her hair this
evening and low and behold there were more
lice in her hair and once again I only had Lyclear
to treat her hair.

We have very sensitive skin and the poor little
girls scalp is red raw and I dont know what to do.

I feel terrible for putting her through this pain
and causing her so much discomfort. I also feel
terrible that I didn’t manage to get them all which
I thought i had.

I will be purchasing your head lice treatment oil but please
what can I do till it arrives, she is only 4 years old,
at school and hasn’t complained once yet I still feel terrible.

I look forward to hearing from you

Yours

XXXXXXXX (edited for obvious reason)

Here is our reply:

Thanks for your message.

Right, big shout here! Stop beating yourself up
over this, things are going to get better very quickly
and you have done nothing terrible so far. Yes a
red sore scalp is distressing but she will be fine
and unharmed. It is a good thing that you decide
very quickly that this way of treating wasn’t the
right way for your family so you have cast it aside
after only a few days, some folks take week,
months before re-considering there options so
don’t be harsh on yourself.

Here is what you can do tomorrow……..nothing.

Stop. Don’t do anything for a day and just chill out and relax.
Head lice are yucky but harmless, they don’t need to be
attacked instantly. Wait to get your order or…..
you can do this tomorrow if you just can’t wait.

Very clear head lice images

June 13th, 2007

I just wanted to add a link to this site where I spotted a beautiful composite image of head lice eggs, juvenile and adult head lice. We have a similar image but quite honestly this one is better and worth a look.

Did you find head lice in your library search?

May 1st, 2007

OK everyone, did you find anything? What? Nothing at all!

Well that was a bit unfair really because I already knew the answer.

Head lice live on heads and nowhere else.

More’s the point; they don’t try to go anywhere else either.

Not bedding, not clothes, not hair slides and ribbons, nowhere.

How can I be so sure? Well, ever seen a fish try to live on dry land?

Ever seen a bird try to nest underwater?

Sound’s crazy when you put it that way but it is just about as unlikely that a head louse will stray outside it’s perfect environment as these other living creatures will go where certain death threatens.

Yes, certain death.

A head louse is highly evolved to thrive on us, humans.

So highly evolved are head lice in that, in fact, any other environment is a huge threat to their very existence.

Except on we humans, head lice die because there is no suitable shelter, warmth, food or fluids.

They need us for all these basic provisions and there is nowhere, except on human beings, that they find all these needs met.

That is why they are not to be found lurking in the house, its furnishings or the bedding.

So if they aren’t there why should you be wasting your time and energy cleaning for them?

Poor advice comes from well meaning people who do not know that they are ignorant.

They don’t mean to mis-direct you; they just don’t check their facts.

They read something and just accept it as true then pass it on without thinking.

They pass on their ignorance not someone else’s knowledge.

And you suffer the consequences.

So, save yourself a lot of time and energy and confine your efforts to clearing head lice and their eggs from your child’s hair and you will be more successful and much happier too!

Advice that wastes your time when treating head lice.

March 21st, 2007

Hate the description “Busy Mum”?  Ever met a mum that wasn’t busy!

So if your child happens to get a case of head lice that is one more task for you to deal with.  Now, imagine that you get advice the following advice on this new problem from a, so called, expert-

“To kill lice and nits, machine wash all washable clothing and bed linens that the infested person wore or used during the 2 days before treatment. Use the hot water (130°F) cycle. Dry laundry using high heat for at least 20 minutes.”

And then they add-

“Dry clean clothing that is not washable, (coats, hats, scarves, etc.)”

Oops, that just added a ton of work to you day didn’t it! And the cost will be phenomenal.

Boy you must be able to see those head lice crawling about all over the place, right? Wrong!

Go on, have a look for yourself. Find me a head louse in your home. Please, before you commit to all that work just take a real close look and see if you can find just one head louse off a head. Should be easy if all those web sites tell you to clean and hoover and scrub them away shouldn’t it.

I tell you what, if you have a library near you, especially a medical library, why not ask the librarian to do a literature search for you. Ask them to match head lice and environment and see what they come up with. Might take them a day or two but they love a challenge.

Let’s talk again once you have the results of this little test.
